Examples of influences

There were quite a few influences on our final idea, including professional films and student idea's that we had looked at before starting our own pieces. Taking aspects like fast editing, unclear shots and the idea of keeping up as much mystery as possible until the very end. All these ideas have been brought into our opening and in doing this our opening has followed many of the conventions found in thriller films.

Initial Ideas

At the start we came up with a few ideas and possible openings for our thriller project. Some of our ideas included scenes of a man being followed by a mysterious figure (location: woodland area) - this then involved a fall where the person being followed trips and then the dark figure falls from a tree landing behind the victim. This concept then evolved into the death of the victim. Another idea we had was a crazy man looking up pieces of news paper and gathering information on his latest victim. It was from a mix of these two ideas we got our final idea.

The props used in our sequence are computer monitors, a study, views of doors and house hall ways, a knife, a dining room and the view of someone in a busy area.
We will only need 3 actors for our opening with no extras.

Thriller Animatic

Our animatic thriller piece was designed to give a brief outline of how our opening would look to the audience. We used the story boards that we drew in a previous lesson to construct the animatics. We photographed each caption and saved them into finale cut. In order to make the scene's fit we had to zoom into the drawing and edit the timing to make it look more convincing as an animatic.
The idea behind our story line is their is a hit man who checks a website in order to find out who his next victim. After many close ups of the screen and a man walking back for a normal night in we find out he is the next victim of the internet hit man. With the title being Deleted it is shown throughout the sequence giving clue's to the audience.

Analalyis of Parasomnia

In Parasomnia they used a variety of techniques including camera angles, lighting, mis-en-scene and setting. The camera angles and shots used were close ups, mid shots, long shots and a variety of low angles and they also decided to cut shots very effectively. The music adds to the astmosphere very well as it is creepy and builds up throughout the beginning, then it changes when the titles appears making it stand out even more. The mis-en-scene changed alot from very dark rooms in which the viewer couldn't quite make out what was going on to an empty field with a single man standing in it. The best technique used in the start was the blood in the water that plays throughout the opening titles.
